Meet the team of people behind Housing Navigator:
Since her first post-college job at a Philadelphia homeless shelter, Jennifer Gilbert, HMNI Founder and Executive Director, has worked to make more housing and make it more accessible. From 2015-2021, she guided the Kuehn Charitable Foundation in its strategic investments in housing production and oversaw the Kuehn Fellowship, supporting the early-stage careers of 25 Fellows in Greater Boston’s community development ecosystem. Previously, Jennifer spent 15 years directing complex, mission-driven real estate development, fostering over 1000 units of affordable housing and creating public arts, early education, and health spaces. She holds an M.C.P. from MIT and a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. She is a member of the Franklin Square House Foundation Board of Directors and frequently teaches on the real estate development and financing process.
Director of Product and Operations Marlee Chong leverages her background in technology and Agile software development to lead the creation of the Housing Navigator search tool and our collection of better and more accurate housing data. In addition, she brings her experience in systems and process improvement to the Navigator’s operations. She previously worked as a Science Solution Manager at Infor and a Business Analyst at Harvard University. Marlee is committed to equity and amplifying underrepresented groups in Boston’s innovation and tech economy, serving as a volunteer mentor with both Hack.Diversity and First Generation Harvard Alumni. Marlee holds a M.Ed. and a B.A. from Harvard University.
Following stints organizing political campaigns as well as MassINC’s 2020 TOD Competition, Rachel Klein joined the Navigator in early 2021 as Project Coordinator. Rachel is passionate about making sure cities are places that function equally for all and brings her love of writing and knack for management and research to the Navigator’s Owner Verification Drive and communications. Rachel has a B.A. from Tufts University, where she was both a Tisch and a Laidlaw Scholar. She has volunteered extensively in her free time as a mentor and leader, locally with the DREAM Program and with the Bay Area Sunrise Movement in her hometown of Oakland.
Data Project Manager Fehintola Abioye joined Housing Navigator in June 2021 after completing a Master’s Degree in Social Analysis and Research at Brown University. Fehintola’s desire for creating equitable housing, health, and educational opportunities in low-income communities across Massachusetts led her to her roles at Mel King Institute, the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative, and Action for Boston Community Development. At Mel King Institute, she managed the curriculum, marketing, and logistics of 30+ trainings per year and facilitated the MKI Certificate Cohort Program. Her role at Housing Navigator has grown since her start as a Research Assistant, and she now focuses more of her time on improving and maintaining the data Housing Navigator collects. Fehintola has a B.A. from Tufts University, where she volunteered with Strong Women, Strong Girls, and deepened her passion for uplifting young women and girls of color.
Bobby Wang joined the Navigator team in late 2021 as a Product Manager after graduating from Harvard with a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning. He is passionate about combining his wide-ranging interests in design, civic technology, and urbanism with a focus on advancing social equity. Bobby previously worked as both an engineer and product designer in the world of consumer electronics. At Navigator, he will focus on conducting user engagement, gathering feedback, and exploring new features and improvements. Bobby also holds a B.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design.
Navigator Research and Outreach Assistant Nora Lutz has been part of the team since September 2020. Nora discovered her commitment to affordable housing and equitable housing access when she served as a Housing Search Specialist and Housing Search Program Manager at the AIDS Action Committee. There, she worked to connect people experiencing homelessness and housing instability with safe, affordable, and accessible housing. She is dedicated to harm reduction and Housing First models of service. A Boston native, Nora holds a B.M. in Music Education from Berklee College of Music and is working towards her graduate degree in Urban Planning and Community Development at UMass Boston.
In addition, our research team helps us gather, correlate and verify housing data from a large number of data sources. Our 2020-2021 team: Jemima Calixte, Natasha Dhamankar, Monica Gregoire, Nick Pittman, Patrick Rhatigan, Abby Werner and Bailey Werner.
